The Choice is Yours PDF Print E-mail

This congregation will meet again this evening for another period of worship and study.  Now is always a good time to ask where will you be tonight? Many times in our life we look for what is required of us.  We want to know exactly what we need to do.  For the most part it seems this stems from a mind set of doing as little as possible and if we know exactly what is required then we will do that and nothing else.  The scriptures are clear that we have a responsibility to one another who are brothers and sisters in the family of God.

Are you open-minded or narrow-minded? PDF Print E-mail

Well now, I have heard that open-minded is better. I have also heard it said (It might have been me. {?}), that one should not be so open-minded that all the trash floating around makes it a receptacle. But, surely, one should not be narrow-minded, I have heard that is bad. It has been said (That wasn’t me.), that narrow-minded people are judgmental, egotistical, arrogant and condemnatory. Well that doesn’t sound good, now does it?

I think we should let the Lord address the question, don’t you? Read on.

How did you like that sermon? PDF Print E-mail

This question may be asked of others as we inquire about their impression of the worship service. The likes of individual listeners may vary considerably and amazingly. It is good and fine to like a sermon, but is that the most important thing about it? Sermons should be preached not necessarily to be liked, but to be accepted and lived. Suppose you did not like the sermon? What of it?

The "Tate" family PDF Print E-mail

A description of the Tates, originally appearing, a long time ago, in a bulletin printed by an Oregon church follows:

“There is an old man Dic Tate who wants to run everything in the church. Uncle Ro Tate tries to change everything. Sister Agi Tate stirs up trouble whenever it is possible. Her brother Irri Tate often encourages her. Whenever new classes or a change in the existing classes or any new work that might require a little extra work is suggested brother Hesi Tate and sister Vege Tate are quick to jump in with buckets of cold water.”

Out of the mouths of babes and nursing infants PDF Print E-mail

14Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant 16and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?” (Matt 21:14-16 NKJV)

I heard or read the story of a mother describing the “worst day of her life”. “The washing machine had broken down, the telephone kept ringing, her head ached, and the mail carrier brought a bill that she did not have the money to pay. Almost to the breaking point, she lifted her one year old son into his high chair, leaned her head against the tray and began to cry. Without a word her son took the pacifier out of his mouth and stuck it in hers”.

You may be ahead of me, but please read on anyway.
